Ada Anderson was taken into custody some days ago for reportedly pepper-spraying her neighbor, April Morant, and her two girls, ages 3 and 6.
Morant claimed that the 81-year-old Florida woman pepper-sprayed her two young daughters for using bubbles.
“Bubbles. Literally. The bubbles put her [Anderson] in a whole other arena, whatever was going on with her mind,” Morant told WESH.
Anderson allegedly hurled racial epithets and leaned over the fence with something in her hand while Morant’s girls were playing with bubbles in their yard “well away” from the fence separating their properties, according to the upset mother.
Morant recounted, “What went through my head is I thought she had a gun, so I literally kind of jumped, like it startled me … I didn’t know what was in her hand … and then she sprayed it.”
A police report indicated that Anderson pepper-sprayed Morant and her daughters. According to Morant, her daughters rushed inside for bottles of water in an attempt to quench the burning feel.
Since moving into the neighborhood with her family in November, Morant said she has had issues with Anderson. But according to her, the problems have been getting worse.
“I feel like she’s escalating,” Morant remarked.
She claimed that Anderson has insulted them by using racial slurs on several occasions.
“Since day one. I have recordings of her,” Morant added.
Those videos allegedly show Anderson shouting things like “you’re not welcome in this neighborhood” and hurling racial obscenities at the family.
Anderson is currently facing multiple battery charges related to the pepper spray incident. Nevertheless, Morant hoped Anderson would face hate crime charges as well.
“Just a battery? But nothing on the kids, or maybe a hate crime because you were saying all this stuff while you were spraying this stuff,” she said.
Anderson is yet to comment on the matter, but jail records show that she has been freed on bond.
Morant stated that going forward, she plans to obtain a restraining order against Anderson and is working to raise funds to move.
“For you to do the bear spray stuff, like I feel like I don’t know what you have in that house,” Morant said. “I don’t know. I don’t want to be by her.”
