Sergeant Brandon Branch returned home from a mission to deal with a totally unexpected situation. After coming back home from the month-long mission in Death Valley on May 18, the local active-duty military soldier discovered that his home on Southern Parkway had been broken into, looted, and almost all of his possessions had been taken.

“I was upset. That was the first thing that crossed my mind. Just being completely upset. Then it was just like, it’s just sad,” Branch told WLKY.

Everything was destroyed in the break-in, including sentimental objects of priceless value as well as ordinary items.

“They took all my shoes, clothes, personal belongings,” Branch said.

Branch is now faced with starting over in his life. “I’m on a mission trying to, you know, do right for the country, you know, in the reserves, trying to do my part, you know, whereas big or small, I’m just trying to do what I can. So it’s like for that to happen… it’s disheartening, just to say the least,” Branch stated.

This is not the first time Branch has experienced a burglary.

“This happened around the same time, but it was in my older apartment, and they never figured out who did that one either,” Branch said.

Branch has started a GoFundMe effort to raise money for his recovery. Additionally, he has taken the necessary actions to notify his insurance company and the authorities about the incident.

The community is now stepping forward after he served his country and community for years. Both neighbors and complete strangers are banding together to help Branch restore what he lost.

Part of the GoFundMe statement read, “We are asking for your generosity to help Sgt. Brandon Branch rebuild his home. Every dollar donated will go directly toward restock stolen essentials, helping him regain stability, and showing him that his sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. No soldier should have to come home to devastation, and with your kindness, we can turn this setback into a fresh start.”
