Kofi Annan – Athlete

Kofi Annan made history as the first Black African to become the United Nation’s General Secretary in 1997 and would be celebrated as a world peace leader both in his home country Ghana and around the world. But before he became one of Africa’s most celebrated and popular diplomat, Kofi Annan was also a record-breaking athlete in his younger years. In 1960, while participating in games at Carleton Stadium, he also played a bit of soccer although not professionally and continued to express his love for sports even during his diplomacy years.
