Cane rat
Rats are usually known for being dirty nuisances that spread illnesses. Nonetheless, they are a hot commodity in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Gabon and Senegal. The rats are captured in their native habitation – marshes, along rivers and other bodies of water. Cane rats are then taken out of their natural surroundings and fattened for later ingestion. Their flesh is low in fat content and high in protein.
