University of Cape Town: The oldest university in South Africa and the second oldest in modern Africa, the University of Cape Town (UCT) to date ranks as the highest-ranked African university in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities and other international systems. Founded in 1829 as the South Africa College, the University of Cape Town is best revered for its Law and Commerce Faculties, which are regarded among the world’s finest. The university’s language of instruction is English.
