El Sexteto Tabalá

This group is the most traditional and leading band in San Basilio that began as a group singing at ceremonies like weddings, funerals and other ritual ceremonies in the vicinity.

Their style of music has a mix of Cuban influences, cumbia and lumbalú (a funerary musical tradition). It was a local recording label, Palenque Records that pushed the group into recording its first album, which eventually catapulted them across the world.
