Movement has always been a part of human existence starting from the medieval era. Whether it was for migration purposes, hunting, escape from predators or any other reasons, humans found one way or the other to transport themselves to wherever they wanted to go.

Travelling by foot is one of the most common means of transportation all over the world and it was the most used in the medieval ages.

Later on, before and sometime after Westerners introduced bicycles, cars and other modern modes of transportation, Africans devised clever means to move around easily and transport food and other items to long distances. In this article, we explore those means of transportation.
