The artist behind the Kobe and Gigi Bryant mural in downtown Los Angeles is saying he’ll likely relocate the artwork to a different spot after it was vandalized just a few days after it was restored.
In April, Face2Face Africa reported that several people, including Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic, donated funds to help the artist restore the same mural after it was similarly vandalized. The mural in question shows Kobe kissing his daughter Gigi on the cheek. Doncic, 26, donated $5,000 for its restoration.
Per TMZ, the recent incident happened on Tuesday evening, and the repeated vandalization of the artwork allegedly stems from street artists involved in a dispute. In the first incident, the anonymous individual(s) who defaced the mural used white graffiti paint to distort the artwork. The vandals in Tuesday’s incident similarly defaced the mural with white spray paint.

The artist behind the mural, Sloe Motions, had just restored the artwork four days ago. “Fully restored Kobe and Gigi mural with graffiti protection all thanks to Luka Doncic and everyone who donated to the GoFundMe,” Sloe Motions said a few days ago.
“It’s great how a bad situation can bring so many people together to bring something back greater. There were so many people that had showed up to help out and it was highly appreciated,” he added. “I really felt the LOS ANGELES love on this one.”
Sloe Motions said he’s now trying to get a new place to paint the mural, though he has yet to settle on the exact location. After Kobe and his daughter Gigi tragically passed away in January 2020, hundreds of artworks of the pair were made in their honor in Los Angeles. It is also reportedly known that those artworks shouldn’t be vandalized.
