6. Ouidah Museum of History
The Ouidah Museum of History is home to a diverse collection of artifacts and illustrations of important historical and cultural moments. The collection is divided into six major themes, including the Portuguese Fort, the Kingdom of Xweda, the Kingdom of Dahomey, the Slave Trade, Vodum, and the Cultural Links between Benin and the New World.
The museum is located inside the Portuguese Fort complex in Ouidah. It was established in 1967 and covers about 1 hectare. Inside the compound are the Portuguese representative’s residences, a chapel, a military garrison, and military barracks.
