5. Door of No Return
The Door of No Return is an important monument located in Ouidah, a historical town with a lot of cultural richness. Known locally as “La Porte Du Non Retour,” the Door of No Return, which was established in 1995, is designed like a typical gate to symbolize the departure of African slaves to the Western world.
The site was the last place that captive slaves walked through before boarding a slave ship. It was after crossing the Door of No Return that a slave would accept the fact that they will never see their loved ones again or return to their motherland, Africa.
