The people, who live along Ethiopia’s northeastern border with Djibouti and Eritrea, also possess the ‘dayta’ hairstyle, which is created using a stick in place. It also uses dairy to keep the curls in place.

The Afar are traditionally pastoralists, raising sheep, goats and cattle in the desert. They are predominantly Muslim.
