Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley on Wednesday announced they’re getting divorced after five years of marriage. The 30-year-old Chicago native and Corley took to Instagram to make the announcement, explaining that they “arrived at the decision to part ways” after a “period of separation.”

“We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together,” Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, shared on his Instagram Stories. “God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you.”

The Grammy-award-winning rapper and Corley, 30, share two daughters – Kensli, 8, and Marli, 4. The couple initially had an on-again-off-again relationship in 2013 until they tied the knot in 2019, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The Coloring Book rapper said he and Corley met when he was 9 years old. He said that was at one of his mother’s office parties. The couple began dating in 2013 before going their separate ways in 2016. That was after they gave birth to Kensli the year prior.

Following their breakup, Corley submitted paperwork seeking to be declared Kensli’s “sole caretaker.” But she changed her mind in 2017 and withdrew the filing after she got back together with the rapper. The couple in 2019 welcomed their second daughter after tying the knot.

Chance has openly expressed his love for Corley and their relationship in some of his songs. His 2019 album, The Big Day, was inspired by their wedding. In his Finish Line/Drown song from his 2016 Coloring Book album, he raps: “Me and my girl plan to stay to the end/Hope there never come a day where we be better as friends/We in a marathon we could build a marriage on.”

On his Blessings track, he also raps: “I know the difference in blessings and worldly possessions/Like my ex-girl getting pregnant and her becoming my everything.”
