More about Chauncy Glover
The dream of Chauncy Glover to be a journalist began at a very tender age. At the age of five, he was delivering news presentations to his family every Sunday after church service. His newscasts were done on an “anchor desk” his father built to develop his talent.
He was born and grew up in Athens, Alabama. Being convinced about the career he wanted to pursue, Glover studied Broadcast Journalism, Music and Theatre at Troy University. He also obtained a degree in Public Relations.
Interestingly, not more than two days after he graduated from college, he got a job at WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia—where his TV career began. Two years later, Glover moved to 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Florida. His eye for breaking news, exclusive stories and community work propelled him to greater heights.
His feature “Chauncy’s Journey” won him numerous awards. It was about reuniting with his family in his hometown in Athens and also the town being devastated by tornadoes. Collaborating with viewers in Jackson, relief items such as food, clothes and household items were sent to the aid of the people in Athens, Alabama. Money for rebuilding a church too was provided.
Following his stint with WDIV Local 4 News team in Detroit, Michigan in December 2011, he was promoted to the position of late-night reporter in just a few months.
Having covered many stories, one of them that Chauncy said he won’t forget about was seeing one of the two students who were shot by a coach at a school located in Detroit when they made an attempt to rob him. After one of them was sent to the hospital, the journalist came across one who was battling for life but later died on the streets.
Following the sad incident he witnessed, he initiated a mentorship program at the Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School for young men. “The Chauncy Glover Project” is aimed at grooming teenage boys into upright gentlemen. They were taught many topics, including dressing to attain success, public speaking, community service, readiness for college and others. The beneficiaries of the program were 7-12th graders.
Chauncy and other mentors were meeting them twice every month and it was full of empowerment sessions and enrichment getaways.
After moving to Houston in 2015, the astute journalist started as a weekend Morning anchor, he got a promotion in 2018 and became KTRK ABC-13’s first black male leading evening anchor. One of the notable things about him was special in-depth reports. Most of the people he touched their hearts on the streets won’t forget him obviously.
In 2016, Chauncy decided to relocate his mentoring program to Houston. Over 350 boys of color had the opportunity to attend college by kind courtesy of “The Chauncy Glover Project”. His relocation to the West Coast did not change the location of the mentoring organization in Houston. Glover accepted to work with the KCAL News team in October 2023.

Throughout his career, Chauncy Glover won many awards. He won three Emmys, stemming from his compelling storytelling, live reports in Detroit and also his live reporting during Hurricane Harvey—whereby he rescued a woman in labor and helped deliver the baby.
His hard work made him being named as part of the Ambassadors of the Year for his work with the youth of Detroit. He received the coveted award alongside Madonna, Mary Barra and five others.
The positive impacts made via his mentoring work earned him recognition from President Barack Obama and My Brothers Keeper.
He was also named as one of Houston’s “Most Interesting People”. Glover became one of the “Most Stylish Houstonians” by the Houston Chronicle. That’s not all. In the Top 40 under 40, he had the accolade as one of Houston’s Top Black Professionals, in the Top 40 under 40.
Impacting the community positively even outside journalism, Chauncy was honored with the Angelo B. Henderson Community Service Award spearheaded by The National Association of Black Journalists.
Apart from journalism and community service, Glover took acting roles in a number of national plays and Off-Broadway shows. Doubling as a motivational speaker, he travelled to many places to inspire others.
He did not see the news or broadcasting as just a job, to him, it was a calling—and positive impact and change should be made while telling the story and engaging with communities.
