American singer and actress Chloe Bailey has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, and has emphasized on the importance of being able to “vote for another woman of color.”

The 26-year-old artist made these remarks after being crowned the Musician of the Year at the Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday.

“There was a time when people who looked like me didn’t have the opportunity to vote,” Bailey said in an interview with Glamour UK on Wednesday. “I’m a Black woman in 2024 who can make my voice heard — who can actually vote for another woman of color to possibly be president.”

“For this generation, no matter which way they go, it is important to place our vote and let our voices be heard”, she added.

Bailey also reflected on how society has progressed over the years in terms of equality, and said, : “I can walk down the street and into any store as a Black woman, I can make a living saying the things I choose to say in my music,” she said.

However, Chloe also touched on the ongoing challenges in maintaining hard-won rights, and specifically pointed to the talk about the right to abortion as one that is ‘sad to see’.

“It’s sad to see rights that were fought for and won possibly being ripped away again,” Bailey said.

“There’s still a long road ahead to equality”, she added.

Bailey’s latest award has her following in the footsteps of her older sister, Halle Bailey, who was named Glamour’s Musician of the Year in 2023.

46-year-old rap superstar Eve, presented Chloe with the award, and the singer was full of gratitude during her acceptance speech. “This job has seen me realize unimaginable dreams,” she said.

Bailey stunned on the red carpet in a strapless red evening gown by Robert Wun, and featured a corset-style bodice and dramatic cone bra, also paired with matching long red gloves.

She completed her stunning look with glittering red heels, drop earrings, and a chunky ring. Chloe’s hair was also well-styled in a voluminous up-do, and she wore a smoky makeup palette to elevate her natural beauty for the event.

Although Bailey has pursued a successful solo career in recent years, she revealed that new music from Chloe x Halle, the duo she shares with her sister, is on the way for many fans.

“Absolutely!” Bailey said in an interview with Forbes in April. “We both have really cool solo projects coming this year, and probably top of next year is when our group music will drop, which will be really exciting. I cannot wait for that, and I know the fans are itching for it, too!”

Chloe Bailey also talked about how her creative journey has evolved over the years, and says although she faces her own struggles like any other human, she is only focused on living properly.

“I’d say it’s naturally progressing as I grow as a human being, you know? Seeing wherever the wind blows and where that will take me,” she said. “As creatives, you have to be honest with yourself and vulnerable, and to do that, you’ve got to live life, so that’s what I’m doing. I’m just trying to live properly.”
