Shannon Amos has revealed, in an unexpected turn of events, that she, like everyone else, only recently found out about her father, John Amos’ passing.
The public was first informed on October 1 that the 84-year-old actor had died on August 21 in Los Angeles from natural causes after his son, Kelly Christopher “K.C.” Amos, made a statement.
Amos’ 58-year-old daughter, a former entertainment executive who is now a medical healer, posted on Instagram a few hours after the statement went viral, expressing her shock at the news.
Shannon wrote, “I am without words…Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st. We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you.
“This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.”
She concluded, “My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.”
Shannon made public accusations of elder abuse against her brother K.C. in 2023, which the “Good Times” actor later came to deny, bringing the family into the public eye.
Shannon claimed that over time, her brother took control of their father’s affairs and distanced himself from members of his inner circle. Shannon told The Hollywood Reporter at the time that she had provided copious documentation to law enforcement agencies in Colorado and New Jersey to look into her allegations of K.C.’s elder abuse.
She added, “This has not only affected me but his grandchildren, his nieces, people he’s worked with and friends he’s had for decades.”
However, John Amos later told People, “KC loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids is an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there.”
