Ghanaian entrepreneur Dr. Osei Kwame Despite has unveiled a world-class automobile museum, which is reportedly the first in the country and the third of its kind on the African continent, after Morocco and South Africa.
The museum, located in East Legon in Ghana’s capital Accra, was officially commissioned on Sunday, June 1, 2025, by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in an awesome ceremony that had in attendance other business moguls, politicians, celebrities, and royalty.
Dr. Despite’s love for cars began as a child and what began as admiration for beautiful machines has now turned into a lifelong collection, the museum says.
Built for car enthusiasts, lovers of history, and groups and families who would love to have an unforgettable journey through time and innovation, the museum says that its carefully curated collection showcases some of the world’s most iconic automobiles, each with a rich history and a story to tell.
“Whether you’re here to marvel at classic vintage cars, explore the evolution of luxury and performance, or simply enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience, our museum offers something for everyone. Step into a world where innovation meets luxury, and let the spirit of automotive excellence inspire you,” it adds.
Besides displaying shiny metal, the Despite Auto Museum says it was built to inspire.
“This is not just a place to see cars. It’s a space to feel inspired, to spark imagination, and to show that world-class experiences belong here in Ghana, too,” the museum says.
Sunday’s showcase was the first time Dr. Despite’s decades-long passion for automobiles was being shared with the public.
Dr. Despite is a renowned media mogul and the Founder of Despite Company Limited, a trading company with subsidiaries in the media and food industries. Dr. Despite is the co-founder of United Television (UTV), and co-founder and Vice Chairman of Best Point Savings and Loans LTD, a renowned financial institution in Ghana.
