Melka Kunture (Ethiopia)
The site of Melka Kunture in Ethiopia was inhabited by a group of prehistoric human species called Homo heidelbergensis. 700,000 years ago, this group of ancient human adults and children as young as one-year-old left footprints in a muddy bank by a pool, which were preserved by a layer of volcanic ash. Inhabitants of the site were accompanied by animals, stone tools and the butchered remains of a hippo.
