Impenetrable Bwindi Forest, Uganda
The Impenetrable Bwindi forest in southwestern Uganda is one of the largest forest areas in Africa, covering 33,100 ha. The forest is home to more than 23 Albertine Rift endemic bird species, making it one of the best bird watching spots in Africa.
The forest’s habitat covers both highland and lowland areas, and sits near the Uganda-Rwanda border. It’s among the few best places to find globally threatened bird species such as the African Green Broadbill, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Kivu Ground-Thrush Zoothera, Oberlaender’s Ground-Thrush, Dwarf Honeyguide, Chapin’s Flycatcher, and Lagden’s Bush-Shrike.
