Rift Valley, Kenya

Commonly referred to as the Kenyan Rift, the Rift Valley region is known for its amazing natural wonders and friendly climate. From massive escarpments to great lakes, the Rift is home to the majority of tourist attraction sites in the country.

The region is also a perfect destination for bird watching holidays. For instance, Lake Nakuru, which is the center of the Rift Valley region, is home to more than 1,400,000 pink Lesser Flamingos. The lake is at the base of the Mau escarpment, canopied by two ancient volcanic peaks.

Other birds available in the area are Greater Flamingos, Sacred Ibises, and African Fish Eagles. Just a few kilometers away from Nakuru is Lake Baringo, which sits in the middle of an expansive woodland savanna. The lake is home to many birds, including Hemprich’s Tockus and Jackson’s Hornbills.
