Bob Marley
The Jamaican king of reggae died in 1981 from cancer at the age of 36. The singer-songwriter, international music and cultural icon died without a will and his properties were shared among his wife and 11 children, according to local laws.
His wife, Rita, and Marley’s family, were later entitled to Marley’s name and likeness after years of court battles. They have also strongly defended the commercial use of any of Marley’s intellectual property, likeness, and songs.
Just about five years ago, his estate sued his half brother Richard Booker for touring Jamaica and organizing festivals in his name. However, the case was settled out of court.
