Aretha Franklin
Franklin died in 2018 from pancreatic cancer and per court records, she died without a will. Her four sons availed themselves as potential heirs to her estate and Sabrina Owens, her niece, sent a request to the court to be named executor of the estate.
Putting a monetary value on her holdings will be difficult since she did not own a vast business just that her hit songs will continue to generate revenue even after her death. She left behind $1 million in uncashed checks as well. The absence of a will further complicates issues as it just leaves room for long legal battles over rights to her assets by family members and creditors.
