Marriage
Family is everything to Dominicans and the marriage between two people that marks the beginning of a new branch in the family. The “padrinos,” the father of the bride and madrinas,” the mother of the groom are labeled godparents of the wedding and serve as witnesses for both parties.
Then there is the unique ritual performed at every wedding where the child, usually a boy, passes a tray with coins to the officiating priest who gives it to the groom, and he gives them to the bride. This exchange symbolizes the couple’s obligation to beach other’s keeper and equally share material goods with each other.
