Ilhan Omar
The congresswoman from Minnesota’s fifth district has been a conspicuous member of the Democratic Party since her election into office in late 2018.
A member of the so-called “The Squad” with three other women of color in Congress, Ilhan Omar has been strong in advocating progressive policies, including a higher minimum wage and student debt cancellation.
All of this is in spite of palpable racial and religious bigotry towards the Somali-born Omar.
