Flau’jae Johnson and Angel Reese formed a strong partnership and friendship when they were basketball teammates at Louisiana State University.
The pair was also part of the LSU Tigers women’s basketball team that made history in 2023 when they clinched their first-ever national championship after defeating Caitlin Clark’s Iowa. But their friendship later went down the drain, and Johnson, 21, in a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, provided some insight into what caused that.
Despite the situation, Johnson, who doubles as a rapper and basketball player, emphasized she still supports the 23-year-old Chicago Sky star, USA TODAY reported.
“It was a lot of media. It was a lot of locker room stuff. Stuff that go on behind the scenes. But it happens. It happens,” Johnson explained, though she did to expatiate on the root cause. “Sometimes stuff happens. You wish it don’t happen, but it do,” the LSU Tigers star stated.
Johnson’s comments on her current relationship with Reese also came months after the WNBA star similarly said they were no longer as cool as they used to be.
“I still support Flau’jae. We aren’t as close as we used to be. There are no hard feelings or anything,” Reese said at the time. “I wish her the best always. I’m always going to support her.”
Johnson in an interview with the New York Post also corroborated Reese’s comments. That was days after Reese touched on their friendship status.
“Me and Angel, we ain’t as close as we used to be, but, like I still support her 1000 percent,” the 21-year-old said at the time.
Outside of basketball, Johnson has been making some major moves as the Boardroom in May 2024 reported that she was among a team of Patricof Co clients who had acquired equity stakes in Bazooka Candy Brands, the company behind Bazooka bubble gum, Ring Pops, and Push Pops.
It was Johnson’s first equity investment, showing how NIL is being used for lasting and sustainable wealth, the platform noted. The month before this, the basketball star had been ranked 14th on On3.com’s NIL rankings with a valuation of $1.2 million.
She had also signed NIL deals with Puma, Powerade and Experian since being named SEC Freshman of the Year. Johnson in August last year also announced that she had purchased her first piece of land to build generational wealth early, Face2Face Africa reported.
“This my land y’all. All of this. All of this my land. We gotta cut the trees down. Come on, I got acres. Y’all be thinking I just be putting it in songs, but nah. They trying to be funny. I’m trying to get money,” Johnson said while displaying a wooded area.
