The Future of Black Hollywood: Here are the influential child stars of 2018

Quvenzhanè Wallis

The 14-year-old Houma, Louisiana native made her feature appearance in the 2012 film Beasts of the Southern Wild being the youngest actress to be nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Actress. Since then she’s appeared in the Annie remake receiving another award nomination for a Golden Globe for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical. Wallis is the first African-American child actor to earn an Oscar nomination and the first person born in the 21st century to receive an Academy Award nomination at the age of six. Wallis has appeared in 12 Years a Slave and singer Beyoncé’s music video for Formation. In 2014 Wallis was named the face of Armani Junior, Giorgio Armani’s clothing line for adolescents making her the first major celebrity of a major upscale clothing brand.
