Ghanaians have expressed shock and sadness over the passing away of the country’s former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Friday.
Sources close to the late Amissah-Arthur have told local media that he died at the country’s 37 Military Hospital after collapsing at an Airforce Gym on Friday morning during a workout session.
I have learnt with shock and great sadness the sudden death of the former Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. He has been a longstanding public servant, who discharged his duties with dignity.
May his soul rest in perfect peace. 1/3— Nana Akufo-Addo (@NAkufoAddo) June 29, 2018
Amissah-Arthur, before becoming the vice president in 2012, was the Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank from 2009 and 2012.
He had before served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government from 1983 to 1986.
The late Veep also worked as the Deputy Finance Minister under the country’s Fourth Republic’s first government from April 1993 to March 1997.
Tributes have since been pouring in for the late Amissah-Arthur. Here’s how Ghanaians are reacting to the news on social media:
“Life changes in the instant. The ordinary instant.”
Rest in Power, #Veep ?? #AmissahArthur

Apparently our Vice President Amissah Arthur collapse during his early morning workout and was pronounced DOA at 37 military hospital.
If the above info is true, don’t use it as an excuse not to work out, obesity is still deadly. Thanks?#RIP ?? pic.twitter.com/rjFcU4ZrSG
