Formula One legend and Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton eulogized his beloved dog Roscoe in a tribute to announce the canine’s death.

Hamilton, 40, in a post on Instagram, stated that Roscoe passed away in his arms on Sunday after making the “hardest decision” of his life to “say goodbye” to his bulldog.

Per BBC, Roscoe was hospitalized last week with pneumonia, and he was ultimately placed on life support after his condition worsened. Hamilton skipped a Formula 1 tyre test to be with his then-sick pet. Roscoe was put in a coma after his heart stopped functioning when he was sedated for checks to be done on him.

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end,” Hamilton wrote alongside photos of him and Roscoe.

“I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”

Hamilton adopted Roscoe and another bulldog named Coco in 2013. Coco passed away in 2020 after suffering a suspected heart attack, BBC reported. Breeders had initially informed the British-Grenadian racer that Coco was going to experience certain setbacks stemming from birth-related issues.

“Although I lost Coco, I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have,” Hamilton stated.

“It is one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet. Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return.”

Hamilton also expressed his gratitude for all the “love and support” shown to Roscoe “over the years.” “It has been so special to witness and feel,” he added.
