A king often had to choose a ceremonial queen who was of royal lineage. In ancient Africa, royal families were often very huge and many first-born daughters of prestigious warriors were given titles that made them eligible to be ceremonial queens. Many times, when a king was unable to find his own queen, a ceremonial queen was chosen to perform duties of the queen.
