Dr. Wedu Somolekae is the founder of Medi-Glow Aesthetics, a Gaborone-based medical aesthetics company providing medically approved beauty treatment and aesthetics services. The lack of professional medical aesthetics service providers in Botswana presented a golden opportunity she creatively leveraged to establish a reliable and top-notch beauty firm that provides a wide range of aesthetic beauty services.

“Not only that aesthetics is new to Botswana, but very few people are practicing it as well. So I wanted to be hired by somebody, and unfortunately, nobody was hiring aesthetics doctors. So it pushed me to start Medi-Glow Aesthetics, Botswana,” she said

Through Medi-Glow, Dr. Wedu is tapping the opportunities in its niche market to offer some of the highly sought-after beauty treatments in the ever-evolving beauty industry. The 29-year-old medical doctor is offering services that enhance and optimize clients’ glow, believing that good health is not merely the absence of diseases, but also living confidently, fulfilled, and happy with one’s physical appearance.

Located at Plot 21179 Village, Gaborone, Medi-Glow Aesthetics offers a wide range of services including Facials, Chemical Peel, Dermaplaning, Laser Hair Removal, Micro Needling, Anti-wrinkle Injection, Vitamin Drips, and Lipolytic Injections

“We use medical grade products, and these contain active ingredients in much higher amounts than regular products and have been clinically proven to have a positive side effect on skin.”

Dr. Wedu uses rare-to-find products, “At times what appears outward on your skin is a reflection of what is going on internally. It can be stress, where counseling or dietary supplement is needed; my assessment can help identify what is necessary for you and not just skin treatment.”

Dr. Wedu graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees from the University of Botswana School of Medicine in 2017. She completed a one-year internship at the Princess Marina Hospital and worked briefly at a medical office in the North East District of the country.

She trained further in aesthetics at Mediskills Academy in Pretoria, South Africa, where she learned chemical peels, micro-needling, toxin and filler, thread lifting, IV nutrient therapy, body sculpting, and weight management.
