Fisk University’s Morgan Price is the first-ever Historically Black College or University (HBCU) gymnast to earn a perfect score in women’s collegiate gymnastics.
In a tri meet at Temple University last weekend, the junior gymnast received a flawless mark for her bar routine. According to Forbes, Price impressed her colleagues with her signature clean abilities and her amazing full-twisting double-back dismount.
The trailblazer’s performance surpassed her previous career high of 9.90 at the event. The junior won in every event except beam, securing a career-high all-around total at 39.500 and outscoring the second-place gymnast by nearly one point, which is an incredible margin in women’s gymnastics achieved a career-high all-around total at a previous career meet by winning all but one of the events.
Since 2022, when the first HBCU gymnastics program was established at Fisk University, Price has been at the forefront of HBCU gymnastics. In her freshman season, Price became the first HCBU gymnast to receive a 9.90, recording the score on bars in just week four of her rookie season, Forbes wrote.
She also won the all-around title at Georgia, making history as the first HBCU gymnast to do so. She was named a USAG First-Team All-American later that season.
With an incredible 9.95 on the balance beam, Price recorded the highest score in HBCU history in her second year, continuing her impressive run of accomplishments. Even though she would set numerous personal records throughout her sophomore year, the USAG National Championships later that spring were the highlight of her career.
The sophomore garnered global attention in April 2024. Price made history again by winning the USAG All-Around title, becoming the first HBCU gymnast to win an all-around national title.
As a high school gymnast, Price was a top recruit and originally committed to the Arkansas Razorback gymnastics team to compete with her sister, Frankie Price. When Fisk launched their historic gymnastics program in 2022, Price switched commitments.
In her Fisk University bio, she writes, “I chose Fisk because it is the first HBCU with a gymnastics team; growing up in gymnastics, I rarely had teammates who looked like me. I wanted to be a part of history & inspire younger girls who want to attend a HBCU as well. I will forever cherish being a part of this team.”
