It was a heartwarming moment for mother and son when rapper Cordae made his mother’s dream come true.

During his appearance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, Cordae asked his mother, Jennifer Dunston, to perform “06 Dreamin,” a sample of a song she wrote as a budding musician in 2006, according to Complex.

“This next song is called ’06 Dreamin’; it’s really special to my heart,” he said following the performance of the opening track of the Tiny Desk Concert set.

The 27-year-old continued, “It’s a story of irony, it’s a story about my mom. A true story of how she was an aspiring singer and she just never got her big break to make it. Ironically enough … she’s living that dream through me because I’m here with y’all. I ended up sampling one of her old songs to make this song. But like I said, we back home, man. I don’t got to use the sample, we got the real thing here today.”

After that, he asked his mother to assist with the song, and she performed the sample that was featured on the studio version of the song live.

“Can y’all make some noise for my Mama one time?” Cordae said when the song had finished.

He said, “Thank you, Mom, for blessing me.”

“Appreciate you, Mom, the invoice is on the way. Don’t worry about it, OK? I got it.”

Other songs that Cordae sang for Tiny Desk were “Have Mercy,” “Saturday Mornings,” “C Carter,” “Nothings Promised,” and “RNP.”
