Sherane Chen is an entrepreneur who went from being a waitress at a restaurant to launching a company that works for restaurants. She first started working at Steak-n-Shake as a waitress when she was 16 and by 21, she created a company that specializes in restaurant marketing.

Today, Chen’s firm is bringing in six figures, according to Business Insider. The entrepreneur gained restaurant experience by studying marketing. She then combined her two areas of expertise to found her company.

Chen studied communications at the University of North Florida and it was during and after his studies that she started working as a waitress. While working, she saved enough because she knew one day she would like to start her own business.

Before launching her own firm, she landed a job in marketing at a local place called Oceanside Grill. At Grill, she learned the operational aspects of the restaurant business. Armed with this experience, she started her own marketing company focusing on social media management, graphic design, video creation, and hiring in 2019.

According to Insider, she landed her first clients while marketing services door to door. “I would say, ‘hey I found your social and saw you weren’t active and I wanted to give you some tips on how you can get more customers in the door,'” the former waitress told Insider.

Chen now has 17 clients and makes over six figures a year, Insider reported, citing documents it has seen. “I’m working toward seven streams of income to be a millionaire by 2025,” she said.

Her company has always been remote, which allows her to be able to work from wherever and whenever she feels comfortable. Currently, she has two full-time staffers including a graphic designer, a social media manager, and a part-time copywriter.

Describing how she functions in a typical day, she told the Insider that she used to work from local coffee shops. However, due to the pandemic, she is now working from home and has even acquired a coffee machine to keep her going through the day.

“I truly don’t know a marketer who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee to get all of the creative juices flowing,” she added. According to her, “Some days are super chill and others are hectic. All holidays are really busy, and the start of each season – spring, summer, fall, and winter.”
