I want to inspire, not showing off – Davido on $62m family private jet

by Novieku Babatunde Adeola, 8:30am March 05, 2020,

Nigerian music artiste, Davido, has stated he is unperturbed by the backlash he received for flaunting his family’s wealth on social media

The singer, who went viral early this week for sharing a video of his father’s latest $62 million Bombardier Global Express 6000 private jet, was criticized for disclosing too much in a country that is battling high poverty levels.

His father, Prince Adedeji Adeleke, is a Nigerian billionaire, business magnate, founder, and president of Adeleke University. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Holdings Limited.

Speaking to the BBC, Davido said his public display of wealth is to inspire people. He further stated that he wants to show the world that Africans live large against the belief that we live in huts.

“We’re not here to run it in anybody’s face, we’re here to show motivation.

“Many kids write to me and tell me that I’m the reason they want to finish school and projects and become successful,” Davido said.

“In America, there are people who think we live in huts,  sometimes I feel like I want to show them…We’re living the fire, we’re going crazy, you feel me?

“It has nothing to do with showing off or trying to oppress anybody. They oppress us enough.”

The purchase of this private jet comes off the back of a similar purchase his father made in 2018 which was worth $35 million.
