Idris Elba is in talks for a role in the iconic Masters of the Universe, a picture by Amazon, MGM Studios, and Mattel Films.

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe franchise debuted in 1982 with a line of popular action figures. It was followed by the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in 1983.

The franchise quickly grew to include an animated series and expand into other consumer touchpoints, such as toys and video games.

According to the information available online, Idris is in final negotiations to play Duncan, aka Man-at-Arms, in the live-action feature adaptation of the popular Mattel toy line.

The talks are led by Idris’s reps Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, and the information was first made public by The Wrap, reporting on Idris Elba’s involvement in Masters of the Universe.

The upcoming anticipated blockbuster is written by Chris Butler (the initial draft was by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee) and will be directed by Travis Knight.

The movie will be produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, and when finalized, Elba will star alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who is set to star as He-Man, Camila Mendes, who is playing Teela, and Alison Brie as “Evil-Lyn.”

However, details about the movie plot are being kept under wraps and will be released exclusively in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.

Idris Elba, known for his versatility, has several projects in the works.

The actor’s previous movie credits include Long Walk to Freedom, Beasts of No Nation, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, Pacific Rim, The Suicide Squad, and Beast, along with the series The Office, Luther, and Hijack.

Additionally, Elba has also previously played Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Thor alum.
