Patrice Lumumba
Aside from honouring Kwame Nkrumah, The Soviet Union also honoured Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba who served as the first Prime Minister of the independent Democratic Republic of the Congo from June until September 1960. The Soviet Union’s effort in creating such stamps was to highlight and celebrate African leaders who had spent most of their lives serving their countries. He has also had a stamp, made in his honour in Mongolia.
