Apart from suffering from the negative consequences of colonialism, Africans have also had to deal with the western world appropriating some of its cultures.
Sadly, in a world where all things good from the continent are not acknowledged as originating from it, the issue of cultural appropriation always seems to crop up, especially when the credit due is not given.
Cultural appropriation by the West has been a growing concern in Africa. The damaging part of this notion is the blood, sweat, and tears produced from the intellectual and physical labor of the originators worldwide are often sought, replicated and yet not credited to them.
From fashion to music, to lifestyle, just to mention a few, Face2Face Africa highlights some African “trademarks” that were stolen by the West.
