Nelson Mandela
South African president and world icon, Nelson Mandela, has been honoured with a stamp by more than one Western country. The African giant celebrated as an icon of peace and freedom boasts of stamps in countries such as Canada and Australia. The $8.5 stamp in Canada was issued in 1990 using a photograph captured by acclaimed Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh, who managed to capture the warm smile of Mandela when he was visiting Canada. The Australian stamp issued by Australia Post was released in 2015 as part of the annual honorary stamps. He also has stamps in Belgium, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba and the Netherlands.
