Inspired by their murdered colleague, these black women are running for office in Brazil

Verônica Lima — Black women of Brazil

Verônica Lima

Verônica Lima of the PT (Partido dos Trabalhores or Worker’s Party) recently became the first black woman to be elected to city council in the history of the city of Niterói which is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

She was reelected in 2016 and now she is running to become a congresswoman for the Worker’s party. The former student leader who has always fought for the black cause also showed competence when she worked with the state government as Under Secretary for Food and Nutrition Security where her role ultimately improved the nutrition of families and young people in Rio de Janeiro.
