Authorities in Georgia have launched an investigation into the death of a 4-year-old boy after he allegedly entered a hot car by himself, WTOC reported.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the June 22 incident occurred at the Summer Trace Apartment Complex on West Turner Street. Authorities said officers responded to the address after the minor, identified as Kameron Jamel Williams, was reported missing.
“While on scene, officers and family members conducted a search of the area for Kameron,” the GBI said. “A family member located him inside a car at the complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Authorities said that preliminary investigations determined Kameron exited the apartment and started playing outside. “A nearby camera captured a person, presumably Kameron, entering the car and remaining inside,” the statement added.
“Kameron’s body was taken to the GBI Coastal Crime Lab Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.”
The National Safety Council (NSC) reports that in 2024, there were 39 child hot car deaths, adding that 13 deaths of such nature have been reported in 2025.
“On average, 37 children under the age of 15 die each year from heatstroke after being left in a vehicle. Nearly every state has experienced at least one death since 1998. In both 2018 and 2019 a record number of 53 children died after being left in a hot vehicle,” the NSC adds.
