Jah Cure: Dutch judge rules Jamaican reggae star will continue serving sentence for attempted manslaughter

Jah Cure, the Jamaican reggae star convicted of attempted manslaughter in the Netherlands, will continue to serve his six-year sentence following a ruling by a judge on Tuesday. According to Jamaica Observer, the ruling came after the musician, born Siccaturie Alcock, made a court appearance for a pro forma hearing. He is due to appear again on January 24, 2023.

Dutch law stipulates that inmates must appear for a pro forma hearing as they wait for the court to confirm a date for their trial. In this regard, a judge has to rule if an inmate should or should not be incarcerated every 90 days.

A court in the European nation sentenced the 43-year-old to prison in March after he was found guilty of attempted manslaughter. He was, however, not found guilty of attempted murder. A conviction of the latter would have attracted a harsher punishment.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Jah Cure was arrested in the Netherlands last year for allegedly stabbing a promoter in the abdomen during an altercation. The musician was on a European tour prior to the incident, and the alleged attack is said to have stemmed from a dispute over unpaid money.

In the wake of his attempted murder acquittal, prosecutors in the European nation filed an appeal against the court’s decision. A date is yet to be set for a new trial. And Jah Cure could end up spending a long time in prison if the appeal is successful, Jamaica Observer reported.

This isn’t the first time the Longing For singer has had a brush with the law. In 1999, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on rape, robbery, and firearm charges. He served eight years of that sentence and was released in 2007.
