Jamie Foxx’s 57th birthday celebration took an unexpected and dramatic turn on Friday the 13th.
The “Collateral” star was injured during a physical altercation at the famed Beverly Hills hotspot, Mr. Chow, when a glass thrown from another table struck him in the face, his representatives confirmed.
“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth. He had to get stitches and is recovering,” a spokesperson told USA TODAY on Saturday.
The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) responded to the scene following a report of a possible assault with a deadly weapon. However, authorities later determined the incident stemmed from a physical altercation between parties, and no arrests were made. A preliminary investigation was conducted, and the case remains under review.
The incident capped off a whirlwind week for the Oscar-winning actor and comedian. On Tuesday, Foxx released his new Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, where he humorously reflected on his life, career, and recovery following a life-threatening medical emergency in April.
“If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,” Foxx joked during the hour-long special, which builds on his October one-man performances. In an emotional moment, Foxx expressed deep gratitude to fans for their unwavering support during his recovery.
“You have no idea how good this feels,” he told the Atlanta crowd. “I was fightin’ for my life, but I’m here in front of you.”
The comedy special marks Foxx’s first major solo project of 2024. Earlier this year, he co-produced the acclaimed Luther Vandross documentary Luther: Never Too Much, which premiered at Sundance, and appeared in the comedy Not Another Church Movie.
