A Kenyan Member of Parliament received a one-day suspension on Wednesday for distributing lollipops to her fellow MPs while parliament was in session.

According to Africanews, the MP, identified as Fatuma Gedi, said she distributed the sweets because the “sugar levels of members had gone down” following a session that lasted the whole day.

Ms. Gedi’s suspension was for breaking rules the house had set on conduct by distributing foodstuff in parliament.

A fellow MP, Ndindi Nyoro, had also accused Ms. Gedi of giving out monetary bribes in the East African nation’s parliament. But Mr. Nyoro failed to prove Ms. Gedi had indeed distributed the alleged bribes when he was asked to do so. He, therefore, received a two-day suspension.

“Hon Nyoro, based on the standing orders 107 having misled the house. I order Hon Nyoro be removed from precincts of parliament for two days,” temporary speaker Soipan Tuya ruled.

Kenya will hold its general elections this year, and the MPs reportedly passed multiple amendments to the country’s political party law.
