Lee Daniels to turn gay social media hero into a real-life superhero in new movie

You may have heard of Dremon Cooper, the 19-year-old Instagrammer who began gracing the timelines of people on social media with his staggering pink high heel boots and killer moves.

The southeast Washington, D.C. native is an internet sensation on Twitter and Instagram following his viral videos which usually feature him rolling and looping like a combatant.

Famously known for the character of Super Bitch, the social media star said he created the character in response to violence and bullying meted out to LGBTQ people.

Revealing his love for agile superhero movies, Cooper told Out Magazine:

“Growing up, I used to love Spider-Man and Catwoman,” he said.

“So I just began to emulate them by climbing up the walls and doing flips. And no, I don’t have any formal training.”

With his few stunts, the actor and comedian would now be on the big screen shooting what has been described as Hollywood’s openly gay superhero movie, thanks to film director, Lee Daniels.

The Oscar-nominated director of Precious and Empire, who had harboured dreams of creating a superhero gay movie, has confirmed the project while introducing Cooper as the lead character.

Daniels reportedly met Cooper in Washington DC, describing him as an amazing young man, reports Towleroad. The Precious director shared the news on his Instagram page with the words:

“Y’all remember maybe 10, 12 years ago I said my dream was to make a gay superhero film?” he said. “Dreams do come true. And I found my superhero. America, world, get ready.”

An equally excited Cooper replied that it was a dream to meet Daniels.

“You’re an amazing man filled with great ideas,” he wrote. “I can wait to work with you!”

In recent years, the LGBTQ+ community has experienced representation in superhero comics as seen in the wedding of Northstar and a mutant drag queen called Shade. These are all in the X-Men comics.

Similarly, when the trailer of Spider-Man: Far From Home dropped recently, some people rejoiced over the fact that the cast of the film included two openly trans actors, reports Digital Spy.

There are not many details of Daniels’ superhero film, including as to when it will be released and the storyline.

While you wait, here are some viral videos of Cooper, who is also a dance teacher for an LGBT nonprofit called Casa Ruby.
