Lewis Hamilton, the F1 driver who just announced his switch to Ferrari, has been introduced as a new ambassador at Dior and the guest designer of a future skiwear lifestyle line from the famed brand.
Having his own brand, +44, which features an array of apparel and accessories that merge F1 and fashion seamlessly, Hamilton is now diving deeper into the design world with his recent collaboration with Dior’s creative director Kim Jones.
The 39-year-old has been seen wearing Dior ensembles and Jones-designed pieces ahead of races like the Monaco Grand Prix, as well as Rick Owens, Jacquemus, and Loewe, put together by his stylist, Eric Mcneal.
With a mom who worked as a hydrogeologist, Jones spent a huge part of his childhood traveling throughout Africa. Hamilton, on the other hand, wishes to explore his roots further, highlighting their mutual love of the continent and dedication to sustainability as motivation for their upcoming capsule collection with Dior.
Jones said the Dior team is working with someone to source sustainable fabrics in Africa such as places like Burkina Faso, WWD reported. Even Hamilton had made a no-animal leather usage agreement with Jones.
Hamilton told WWD that “Making it sustainable was key. When you’ve got a big house like Dior pushing that technology as well, hopefully, the goal is always to encourage all the other brands to want to start doing the same, because so many just are not conscious.”
Thibo Denis, Dior’s footwear head designer, revealed a sneak peek of the lifestyle collection on Instagram. The eight-slide carousel includes chunky black and deep red sneakers with a distorted Dior motif on the tongue and another tan colorway with mesh panels and 3D rectangular additions on the sides of the shoe, made to withstand the snow.
The collection will also include garments and will be unveiled and available for purchase on dior.com and in select Dior stores on October 17.
