Lil Durk is helping to donate some scholarship money to college kids who know their way around the basketball court.
His recently revealed Starry for the Starry Fizz Fest would enable him to contribute more than $333,000 in scholarship funds and prizes.
The festival which began at Norfolk State University on March 29, would travel to other historically black colleges and universities, including Morgan State University (April 26), Hampton University (April 1), and Jackson State University (April 20).
Every school will have a basketball competition where players can compete in arcade basketball, three-point shooting, and other sports.
The winner will represent the next Starry Fizz Fest 2.0 competition and get an all-expenses-paid trip to the NBA Tip-Off for the 2024–25 season.
Additionally, the PepsiCo Foundation will award a fortunate student at each school $20,000.
Students at four historically black colleges (HBCUs)—Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Jackson State University, and Morgan State University—will have an opportunity to win over $333,000 in scholarships and rewards this spring. One of the prizes is a NIL deal that is typically only awarded to student-athletes, offering a student a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be one of the new faces of STARRY.
Later this year, the winner will receive a fully compensated trip to the Kia NBA Tip-Off. Additionally, their name, image, and likeness will appear on STARRY FIZZ FEST 2.0 advertising materials, just like a true star with a NIL deal.
Lil Durk, who is no stranger to holding his own in an arena, will make an unexpected campus appearance to watch the battle and demonstrate to kids how any fan can possess the ability to win.
Lil Durk stated, “This initiative is about showing love and supporting our people while they chase their dreams, as well as rewarding students for their hard work both on and off the court.”
For the stars off the court, STARRY is also partnering with the PepsiCo Foundation to unlock $80,000 in scholarships across the four universities. The PepsiCo Foundation will award $20,000 to one student at each university to go towards their education to help foster their long-term educational and professional growth.
“Our mission with STARRY FIZZ FEST is to bring the excitement to basketball fans that the brand is known for while rewarding HBCU students for their passion, amplifying their talent, and offering opportunities that positively impact these universities, their students, and their communities,” officially stated the PepsiCo Foundation. Senior Vice President of Industry Relations and Multicultural Development, Kent Montgomery.
Students who participate will have the opportunity to play three different games—S-T-A-R-R-Y (a twist on the well-known game H-O-R-S-E), 3PT Knockout (a three-point shootout competition modeled after the STARRY NBA All-Star and HBCU Classic tailgate footprint), and Shaky Shot (a moving backboard game inspired by the classic arcade game)—for a chance to win prizes like STARRY merchandise and gift cards.
Students who successfully score certain shots around the court in the S-T-A-R-R-Y game will have three minutes to acquire six letters. The fastest player on campus will win when someone spells out S-T-A-R-R-Y. At a final tournament, one winner from each school will represent their campus to demonstrate their abilities and receive big bragging rights.
