For over a year, LaRosa Solo and her adult son were homeless. With the assistance of neighborhood organizations, Solo has found a new home in Atlanta.
Atlanta News First encountered the family of two in February while investigating homelessness in Atlanta. They were both sleeping on the pavement next to the courthouse in Fulton County.
“I’m literally sitting in my own home, I’m not sitting outside like when you first interviewed me,” Solo told the outlet. “God is good. This is my home.”

“I wouldn’t wish that on nobody. Homelessness is an awful thing,” Solo said.
Solo explained she became homeless when her spouse died and she couldn’t afford to pay her rent.
However, she said that God had blessed her with the support of groups like Partners for Home, which seeks to give homeless people in Atlanta access to housing.
Solo gave Atlanta News First a tour of her new apartment in Northwest Atlanta, which features a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Her son was also given a space of his own.
“Finally, I’m home. I’m home. I’m really home,” she said. “No rain, no snow, no freezing, no wetness, no hungriness, none of that. So I thank God for that.”
Solo described it as an adjustment, saying she was still in survival mode and had to remind herself that she is safe.
LaQuana “LA Pink” Alexander, president of the grassroots organization Street Groomers, has also helped along the way and made it clear that she will continue to do so.
“To actually now be able to witness and see them through the process, that’s where the blessing comes in,” Pink said.
Atlanta News First reported in February 2025 that the Street Groomers organization had acquired cots for Atlanta’s homeless population. At the time, L.A. Pink stated that the objective is to literally raise everyone to their feet.
“If we could take these throughout Atlanta, that would be something great,” she said. “Especially for the elders that are on the ground.”
The organization bought several of the cots and gave them to the women first. This is one of the continuing initiatives that L.A. Pink is taking part in to assist the homeless population in metro Atlanta.
“How can we be effective to help them and not hinder their situation? Because sometimes you can put a Band-Aid on a situation and it’s just a constantly revolving door that they’re not going anywhere,” L.A. Pink said.
