Hollywood Star Lupita Nyong’o has added a furry member to her family. In an Instagram post over the weekend, the 40-year-old actress announced her newest family addition of a cute cat named Yoyo.
Nyong’o couldn’t contain her excitement as she introduced Yoyo to her adoring fans. In what seemed like a fresh start in her love story, she said that even though she had always been scared of cats, recent life changes have given her the confidence to conquer her fear of cats.
Alluding to her split from her boyfriend Selema Masekela, Nyong’o said she has learned to embrace change and new beginnings starting with her newfound feline friendship. She said she was guided to brace her fear of cats by a friend who guided her into the world of pet adoption, visiting various animal shelters. According to her, she began building her relationship with Yoyo three days after adoption.
Nyong’o said that given the connection she has established with Yoyo, she can officially be described as a member of the devoted pet parent club. She indicated while it may appear that she has become a lifesaver for Yoyo, the cat has become her source of comfort and solace.
“I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets — now I am one of those people! It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me,” she indicated in her Instagram post.
Nyong’o opened up about how the heartbreak caused by a sudden and deceptive end to a love impacted her. She acknowledged that there is often the temptation to retreat into darkness and re-emerge only when her strength has returned. However, she indicated that sometimes one must find the strength to confront their pain, recognizing that it’s a testament to her capacity for love.
Nyong’o’s decision to face her emotions head-on and trust in the healing power of time embodies a message of resilience and hope in the face of adversity.
