A Maryland woman said that she was drugged and kidnapped while vacationing in the North African country of Tunisia

Per FOX 5 DC, the woman, identified as Meka, is said to have traveled to Tunisia with her friend, Queen. The pair were in the African nation’s capital of Tunis for a week, and they returned to Montgomery County on Tuesday.

Meka claimed that she had gone to the lobby of the Penthouse Suites Hotel for some tissues on Saturday when she was drugged and kidnapped. She said the incident happened after she went to the club and came back to the hotel.

“The next thing I remember, I’m in the back of a car, and I just start opening doors, I start panicking,” Meka recalled.

She also said that a man, who was in the driver’s seat, attempted to prevent her from exiting the car. She said the driver punched her and attempted to cover her mouth when she shouted for help.

“It’s a grown man. He’s punching me in my face or my forehead and both of my eyes,” Meka recalled. “So I’m like I just keep thinking I got to get back home to my kids.”

During her alleged ordeal, Queen was at the hotel and made frantic attempts to locate Meka. Queen said that she spoke with hotel staff, but she was told Meka left after she “made a friend.”

“And I’m like, ‘How can she make a friend? She doesn’t speak these languages,” Queen said.

Meka eventually managed to escape the danger and return to the hotel. Queen also claimed that she tried to seek help from the hotel staff, but those efforts were fruitless.

“I have videos, they’re like walking away. They’re like, ‘This didn’t happen here. We don’t know what you’re talking about,'” she recalled.

The pair ultimately contacted the U.S. Embassy in Tunis and then had a meeting with embassy staff and local police, FOX 5 DC reported.

Meka, in a GoFundMe, stated that she’s pursuing legal action and needs “help covering the costs of that process as well as the immediate supports I require to heal.”
