You might know her as Diane Johnson in the very popular ABC comedy series Black-ish or as Melody in the award-winning movie An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win. But with the release of her latest movie later this year, 14-year-old African American actress and singer, Marsai Martin, will be known as the youngest Executive Producer in Hollywood history.
Marsai Martin keeps winning the hearts of many around the world for her sweet looks and witty character both on and off screen and on January 9, the teenage actress snatched the attention of the world and movie fanatics few minutes after the release of the trailer for Little.
Co-starring with Issa Rae and Regina Hall, Marsai plays the role of younger Regina Hall after a little curse takes the mean boss lady back to her little 13-year-old self. The 3 minutes and 16 seconds trailer shows Marsai in her elements, mean, flirty, sarcastic and funny, making fans eager to finally get to see the full movie.
Aside her stellar performance in the movie, Marsai also played a major behind the scene role as executive producer of the major Hollywood motion picture and is the first young actor to do this in the history of Hollywood. Talk about Black Girl Magic!
According to the Root, Marsai has had the idea of the movie since she was 10 years old after falling in love with the Tom Hanks film, Big. Speaking with the Root, Marsai said “It doesn’t matter if you are four or 84, there’s no limit to what you can do,” “And if you prove that you can do it, you don’t have to wait… A 13-year-old created this film and it turned out to be a wonderful, loving and fulfilling film.”
Marsai Martin was born on August 14, 2004, and had her first taste of being on screen at the age of 5 when she was cast for a national commercial. At the age of 10, Marsai was cast for the role of Diane Johnson in Black-ish and the only way has been up for the very talented and captivating young actress ever since.
Little, An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win and Black-ish are not the only motion pictures Marsai has starred in. She has also starred in Nina (2016), Fun Mom Dinner (2017) and a short film including several animations.
The award-winning actress has now added Executive Producer to her CV. Little is set to release on April 12, 2019. With all the hype going around the new movie’s trailer, Marsai Martin is on her way to breaking more records when the movie finally hits the box office.
