Authorities in Miami have brought charges against a veteran nurse who allegedly killed her mother after she removed the victim’s intubation.
Per NBC 6 South Florida, the fatal May 16 incident occurred at the Northshore Medical Center. Authorities said the suspect Juansette Sabrina Green’s mother was admitted to the medical facility on May 5 after she started having shortness of breath.
The victim was later moved to the intensive care unit and intubated after her condition exacerbated. The arrest report also stated that on May 16, Green, 54, had her son and daughter join her at Northshore because her mother’s condition wasn’t good.
When the trio and victim were in the ICU without any other witnesses, the report stated that Green allegedly disconnected her mother’s intubation after saying, “I’m pulling out.”
Her actions prompted an alarm to sound, causing medical staff to make their way to the room and render medical aid to the victim. But while doing that, Green is said to have told the medical staff to desist from their actions and she “wanted her mother to go in peace,” the report stated.
Green’s mother was pronounced dead not too long after. The report stated that police did not meet Green when they arrived at Northshore as she had left in the aftermath of the incident.
The 54-year-old suspect was ultimately arrested at her home the same day and charged with aggravated manslaughter of an elderly or disabled adult, NBC 6 South Florida reported. The report stated that Green has been working as a licensed nurse practitioner for over 20 years.
Green is currently being held without bond.
